Vote for Hank

I know, another Hank post.  I entered Hank in a photo contest put on by, A Dog's Life. They make nutritious natural organic dog treats. If he wins, he has a good chance of appearing on one of their packages.   They change the packing every few months. Of course, winning is not based on the amount of votes alone, but it helps.  Here is the link to the gallery: A Dog's Life Photo Gallery.  Last time I check he is still on the first page.  If you are not up for a contest (it can be stressful), you can custom order a bag of treats featuring a photo of your own four legged friend.

Into the Wild

Of all the movies out last year"Into the Wild" is one you absolutely must see.  Without giving to much away, it's the real-life account of a young man just out of college.  He comes form an affluent dysfunctional  family,  he has never wanted for anything, and has a future ahead without  any roadblocks in sight.  Instead of going down the predicable road that has been paved for him since childhood, he chooses to give everything away. He wants to live a life absent of greed, materialistic wants or desires, and the monotony of everyday life that drags people down till there is nothing left.

If you like the movie, you have to buy the CD.  You will not be disappointed. This is  Eddie Vedder's (Pearl Jam) first solo project. He preforms all the songs and wrote all but 2 of them.  Like a lot of soundstracks, the music is not treated as background noise.  It's used as part of the story telling.  My favorite song on the album is "Society".

Society written by Jerry Hannan

Oh it's a mystery to me.
We have a greed, with which we have agreed...
and you think you have to want more than you need...
until you have it all, you won't be free.

Society, you're a crazy breed.
I hope you're not lonely, without me.

When you want more than you have, you think you need...
and when you think more then you want, your thoughts begin to bleed.
I think I need to find a bigger place...
cause when you have more than you think, you need more space.

Society, you're a crazy breed.
I hope you're not lonely, without me.
Society, crazy indeed...
I hope you're not lonely, without me.

There's those thinkin' more or less, less is more,
but if less is more, how you keepin' score?
It means for every point you make, your level drops.
Kinda like you're startin' from the top...
and you can't do that.

Society, you're a crazy breed.
I hope you're not lonely, without me.
Society, crazy indeed...
I hope you're not lonely, without me
Society, have mercy on me.
I hope you're not angry, if I disagree.
Society, crazy indeed.
I hope you're not lonely...
without me.

I hope you enjoy them movie and much as I did.  I have onwed the CD for a few months now and it's sitll in my CD player.

New Links

For the past three weeks, my life as I know it, has come to a halt.  I have had a few outings but nothing to write home about.  One of the things I miss the most is thrifting and going to yard sales.I have never been one to surf the net, I would rather be out running around or playing in my workroom. Under the circumstances, I have no choice but to warm up to the Internet.   Till I am out and about, I will be sharing links of the week.

clear thinking

For those of you who have purschased Fragments (Tim Holtz) or are wondering what to do with all those clear plastic cut outs, the answer is finally here.  Check out "Plexi Class."  It's Tonia Davenport's lasted contribution to the crafting world.  Not only does she share a few more of her alternative framing ideas (Frame It!), she shows how to contort, cut, stamp, and alter Plexiglas with ease. Other than the obvious (a protective cover), I have always wanted to incorporate Plexiglas into my work. The techniques and projects featured throughout can easily be applied to ones own creative ideas. The best part is, I already own most of the tools, and the ones I don’t, aren’t going to break the bank. Thanks for sharing, I can’t wait to get started.

bye for now (Eric the Little Person, HS)

This is my last post for awhile. I have to admit, at first I wasn't a big fan of the whole blogging thing. I put it off as long as I could.  In the last few months I started warming up to the idea. I never thought I would say this, "But I am going to miss it."  Go figure.

August 4th and 5th are my first classes of the summer.  To sign up, visit:  artunraveled.com.  I look forward to seeing everyone after a long hot summer.  Never mind, it will still be hot.

A gift from Nick.

I just figured out the old program and now they (Typepad)  went and changed it. Why do they do that.  If the the post looks funny I apologize.  I don't feeling like messing around with this all day.  Sorry!!!  It makes me want to scratch my eyes out.  What happened to cut, copy, and paste? I know I can do that but obviously not on this site.

It's out!!!

"Bent Bound and Stitched" is now available at your local book, craft, and online stores.  I knew it was due out soon, but I had no idea till I saw it sitting on the counter at  Mystic Paper (Mesa, AZ) .

The soldered house in a  book class was a success.   Everyone's projects turned out great. I even had a newbie in class.  She had such wonderful time that she is hooked.  Of course, I didn 't have my camera. Here is a picture of the one I completed.  For more pictures, check out Mystic Paper Blog.

Find of the week:  Oh God, Jesus, and Baby Jesus (Jerky Boys).

J3 J5 J10

I found the handless God statue Friday at 11:00 am.  I couldn't believe it was still there.  Who wouldn't want a statue of God without hands and one that comes in 3 separate parts (look for the cracks).  The best part was the price. It was only $2.00.  Score!!!  My parents are from Ciminna.  It's a small town in Sicily. This story is one of many religious miracles that have graced Ciminna. One day an image appeared on a wall.  It was the shroud of Jesus. The perfect image of his face. They washed it off, painted over it, and to everyones amazement it appeared over and over again.  People traveled from the far reaches of the earth to visit this miracle.  I was hoping my statue would sprout hands and I would have my own pilgrimage.  Sad to say that hasn't happened yet. I will keep everyone posted.

Here are a 2 classes that I booked for September:

September 20th, 10:30 to 2:30, Wild Accordion Book, Mystic Paper

September 27, 10 to 2, Wee etched copper house with cold connections, Creative Quest

Frances Sweet Frances - Finds of the week

I know I have tooted Georganne's horn more than once but here I go again.  She has put together the most amazing goodies all under one roof.  One of my favorite areas to shop in, is the home and garden section.  I am always on the hunt for wee things to put in boxes and she never disappoints with her selection of interesting treasures.

Here are a few pictures of my wee Frances collection:

I found the wee bird's nest at a rummage sale.  They were 10 cents each.  I couldn't leave them behind.

Sign the petiton

Everyone that earns a living or hopes to one day earn a living through their art, needs to sign this petition: Orphan Works Bill.  They need 20,000 thousand signatures.  For those of you out there that have blogs, here is a chance  to use your blogs as a networking tool and make a change.  Below is a brief description of the bill.

The Orphan Works Bill is designed to benefit big corporations and legalize theft. Individual artists would have to pay to register their work at private institutions. Anything not registered would be an "orphan work" and free to use without penalty or payment.
Effectively, artists would lose any right to make money from their artwork.
We can prevent this. Ban the Orphan Works Bill!

I want to thank Olivia for passing on this information.  I know a lot of you out there in blogging land  have huge contact lists.  If everyone passes this on and at the very least 10 people sign up, we make a difference.

Onto to lighter news.  After sporting the same hair cut for the past 8 years or so it was time for a change.  Due to personal reasons I am going to be out of commission for the better part of the summer.  That means, no teaching, no swimming, no yard sales, no thrift stores, blah, blah, blah. You get the point, it's going to be a long, hot, sad, summer. I am going to be on my back (get your mind out of the gutter Mike ) for the better part of it.  The last thing I want to deal with is my long hair.  It was time for a change anyway.  Without getting to deep, it's not about the haircut.  It's about how easy it is to become stagnate and still in life.  I came home Friday with bangs and 8" inches cut of the bottom.  I should have done it years ago.  I feel like a new person.  Someone out there is right, " Change is good."

Due to stinky paint fumes, I taught my first alfresco class at Mystic Paper.  Everyone had a great time. It reminded me of the 2nd grade. Back in the day when you didn't have to worry about getting kidnapped or terrorized with a gun by your peers. The art teacher would let us sit outside and draw. If want to sit under a tree, I don't recommend sitting in the same spot for to long.  Someone ended up with a bird pooh hat.  You have to be smarter than the birds.  Moving targets are harder to hit. The good times, remember the good times.

I have 4 classes left in May and will not be teaching  again till Art Unraveled.

Can't say, "NO!"

I keep telling myself, "Time to put a moratorium on buying found objects!" That rule lasted about a day.  I am a junker at heart.  It's the monkey on back.  I need a support group.   On my way home today, I stumbled across a tool tray of 7 vintage wooden fold up rulers and the big score, a metal one.  Perfect for riveting.  I admit, I have a plastic container full of them but there was no way could I pass up 8 rulers at the tune of $2.0o each.  Needless to say, they have taken up permanent residence in my workroom.
